Obeo Health Introduces Alerts and Mobile Apps to Help Better Manage Benefits

Burlingame, Ca., Sept. 14, 2016 – Obeo Health, the maker of online tools to help employees manage their healthcare finances, now offers alerts and a mobile app so users never miss a chance to make smart health care choices, even on the go.

Obeo’s newly introduced alert feature proactively engages employees to enable them to better understand and track medical bills and flag opportunities to save money on health expenses.

With its new app available on tablets and mobile devices, employees have easier access to real-time billing information and claims data from any location.

“We are excited to increase the services Obeo offers our clients because we know these alerts and apps will allow employees to take full advantage of all the unique ways our tools create better health care consumers despite increasingly complex plans and help them control rising costs,” said Obeo Health’s Chief Executive Officer, Naveen Saxena.

With Obeo alerts, employees will now get fast notifications when Obeo’s claims analysis identifies ways to save costs. And they can also receive alerts that flag clinical issues to discuss with their doctor.

This personal concierge service lets your employees receive a notification if there’s a way to spend less out of pocket on medical expenses, like cheaper prescriptions, contra-indications, gaps in care, and billing discrepancies.

Obeo Health is the market leader and the world’s first healthcare technology company to combine data analytics, clinical expertise and employee education into a full suite of online tools to help U.S. workers make optimum health care decisions and increase their health literacy.

By using Obeo Health, tools, employees also become better healthcare consumers because they more easily understand what is offered. But health benefits are often not top of mind in the middle of a busy day. With these new alerts, employees will get a gentle nudge before they make decision that leads to wasteful spending or poor health care choices.

Over time, this education helps build the employee’s confidence and helps them make the right choices; so lower cost plans such as high deductible health plans will succeed for everyone.

Obeo Health Offers First Online Tool to

Help Employees Manage Healthcare Finances

Burlingame, Ca., June 29, 2016 – Obeo Health announces the successful deployment of online tools that take the guesswork out of selecting health benefits. It then goes one step farther to offer the only service that helps employees manage healthcare finances year-round.

Companies who offer Obeo Health tools saw their employees gain greater health literacy to help them better capture the value in insurance offerings such as Consumer Directed Health Plans (CDHP). CDHP plans are here to stay and can bring great value when used correctly but most people are just now learning how they work.

When Progress introduced four plan options, including a CDHP with a health savings account (HSA), not only was the concept new to the workers but also the management team. Progress set out to enroll 10 percent of its staff in the HDHP.

Then they brought in Obeo Health’s team to help educate employees about the new offerings and provide Obeo’s tools to help employees better understand how each plan works and the cost-effectiveness of each.

Obeo’s team added educational information to the Progress Open Enrollment brochure and demonstrated how the online tool worked for each individual at Open Enrollment webinars and in-person demonstrations.

“We nearly tripled our CDHP plan adoption with Obeo Health,” said Kristen Jadul, Progress senior benefits manager. “In the past we provided tools that weren’t personalized and didn’t include data such as out-of-pocket estimates or a recommended contribution for an FSA or HSA. Obeo presents everything together in a nice way that provided an all-in cost so employees could do their own comparison.”

Obeo analyzes past coverage information to forecast where the employee will spend money and ways they can save. It then creates a personalized plan recommendation.

“The Obeo tools helped our associates understand their annual costs by adding their premiums and out-of-pocket dollars together,” said Karrie Andes, the senior benefits manager at PGi, another Obeo customer. “Obeo definitely improved transparency with plan selections because everyone could clearly see what their greatest expenses were.”

Obeo’s intuitive, engaging interface supports complex healthcare decisions. For most companies, Open Enrollment falls at a busy time of year. So it’s hard to get employees to take the time to review each plan. And it is difficult for the human resource team to find time to answer employees’ questions.

“Obeo saved me a lot of time,” Andes said. “Before Obeo, I was handling a lot of one-on-one enrollment consultations and it was a challenge to meet with everyone during Open Enrollment.”

When companies offer Obeo Health it simplifies health insurance decisions for human resources and the average worker. By using Obeo Health tools, employees also become better healthcare consumers because they more easily understand what is offered.

“We have found that most people stick with the plan they have because they don’t really want to deal with it. But with Obeo, it was different,” said Jadul at Progress. “We just thought that was a huge success; people used this tool and thought it was valuable.”

Selecting a health plan is a huge decision for families, with big consequences.

For most U.S. families, health spend is often the largest budget item and yet employees fail to select the plan that’s best for them. The typical U.S. employee spends $3,000 to $12,000 each year on healthcare costs.

Obeo’s education tools support users every step of the way with links to definitions for medical terms and basic education on a diagnosis and procedures.

Obeo Health also helps employees better manage their healthcare finances. There’s also cost savings alerts for prescription drugs with cheaper alternatives and alerts for possible clinical interactions.

“Viewing claims year-round with Obeo is easier than the tool other insurance plans offer. Plus, Obeo starts with three years’ worth of data and that data will continue to grow, while many plans only go back two years,” Andes said.

Over time, this education helps build the employee’s confidence and helps them make the right choices; so lower cost plans such as consumer directed health plans will succeed for everyone.

Obeo Health Improves Healthcare Buying

Decisions By Offering Prescriptive Analytics

Obeo Health helps employees make better healthcare decisions

and drive down costs for everyone through the power of analytics

Burlingame, Ca., April 20, 2016 – Obeo Health introduces the world’s first technology to serve as a full-scale healthcare finance management tool for both companies and their workers and offers the only suite of cloud-based tools combining health data analytics, clinical expertise and employee education.

Why are companies choosing Obeo Health? When it comes to picking health plans, most employees fail to select the one that’s best for them. Obeo Health eases this dilemma by mining data and creating applications to compare benefit plans and increase health literacy. The typical U.S. employee spends $3,000 to $12,000 each year on healthcare.

“For the average American, healthcare is one of the biggest line item costs they have, yet people have no idea how they are spending these dollars, where they are spending them and how to budget,” said Obeo Health’s Chief Executive Officer, Naveen Saxena. “Obeo’s suite of secure and HIPAA compliant tools allow people to understand health plans, budget their healthcare dollars and minimize their out-of-pocket expenses.”

Annual premiums for employer-sponsored family health coverage reached $17,545 this year, up 4 percent from last year, with workers on average paying $4,955 towards the cost of their coverage, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation/Health Research & Education Trust 2015 Employer Health Benefits Survey.

“Medical plans have become increasingly complex in an effort to control rising costs. Employees have largely been left with little to no tools or support in making important healthcare decisions,” said Nate Randall, President of Ursa Major Consulting and former Head of Benefits at Tesla Motors.  “Obeo Health’s unbiased presentation of personalized medical costs provides the critical support employees and their families need during Annual Open Enrollment and throughout the year.”

Data-Driven Tools Provide Secure Information and Cost Savings for Employers
Obeo Health’s simple, cloud-based solution works with their benefits partners to get the data necessary to set up the system, with limited or no assistance from their IT team. Employee access can be provided by single sign-on (SSO) from a benefits portal or through a standalone website.

For employees, Obeo Health creates better healthcare literacy by offering data-driven tools such as My Open Enrollment Assistant (OR PLAN COMPARISON) and My Health Manager. Here is a brief description of these tools:

    1. My Open Enrollment Assistant / Plan Comparison

The Open Enrollment Assistant predicts premium costs and out-of-pocket expenses, such as co-pays and deductibles, in a confidential format available only to the individual employee not the employer. There are no generic surveys to fill out; Obeo Health’s secure and HIPAA compliant services mine claims information of employees and their family members to generate these highly accurate predictions.

    • Clearly explain total costs and benefits

Obeo Health breaks down the cost of each plan and explains the pros and cons by weighing premiums, co-pays, co-insurance and other out-of-pocket expenses that make up the total spend.

    • Show Employees the HDHP Savings

High Deductible Health Plans are often the best choice for employees and employers alike. Obeo Health is the first company to show employees how their current plan stacks up against the new high-deductible plan offerings, with personalized ratings based on a formula that includes premium and out-of-pocket costs, provider network status (in or out) and covered prescriptions.

    • Demonstrate the value of a Tax Savings Account (HSA/FSA)

The plan comparisons and in-app tools such as the FSA and HSA forecaster allow employees to model yearly health expenses and adjust the projections to better meet their financial and health goals. Employees can also calculate their HSA and FSA contributions and tax savings, and explore the other benefits of these complicated plans.

    1. My Health Manager

My Health Manager empowers an employee to take an active role in bringing down healthcare costs. It decodes the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statement by charting healthcare bills, benefits and expenses.

    • Bring benefits into the digital age

My Health Manager’s simple and beautifully designed dashboard provides a graphic display of expenses and payments and includes a variety of views to filter the information by condition, provider, family member and type of expense.

    • Our own claims adjudication engine

Obeo Health’s secure platform includes our own claims adjudication engine that independently calculates the patient responsibility for each expense and flags discrepancies and overpayments. It can also flag out-of-network doctors, lower drug cost options, mail order cost savings, drug interaction warnings and prescription conflicts.

To support its clients, Obeo Health provides reliable in-person and online training to make sure employees understand the platform and all of its capabilities. In addition, a comprehensive dictionary provides an immediate and clear definition of every medical condition, as well as links to definitions for all unfamiliar and potentially confusing terms and concepts.

No Tools to Help Budget for Healthcare Costs – Until Now

“For most employees, healthcare is often one of their biggest expenses and while there are many sophisticated data-driven personal financial planning tools, there are none to help budget and plan for healthcare costs,” said Varun Bhatia, former CHRO at Levi Strauss & Co. “Planning for health expenses begins with selecting an optimal health plan and making informed decisions about effective care, year round — easier said than done — this is truly using human resources analytics for employee well-being.”

Based in Burlingame, Calif., Obeo Health is led by a diverse team of individuals with expertise in insurance, clinical medicine, computer science and user experience, united by a passion for making healthcare better.
